After more than a decade designing, engineering and implementing submarine optical cable systems around the world, WFN Strategies is celebrating its 15th  year as an industry leader in system consultancy and contracting.

Established in March 2001, WFN Strategies is headquartered in Sterling, Virginia, just outside the Washington, DC metropolitan area, with the mission to provide world-class support for submarine fiber cable systems throughout the world.

Soon after its formation, WFN Strategies was contracted by BP to provide the methodology and system configuration support for BP GoM –a then-proposed Gulf of Mexico, deep-water inter-platform telecommunications system, (commissioned in 2008).

Since then, WFN Strategies has continued to leave its mark on the world with projects like Broadband Linking American Samoa Territory (BLAST) system—the area’s  first-ever inter-island 350 km unrepeatered submarine cable network connecting the Islands of Tu’tuila, Ofu, Ta’u and Aunu’u, complemented with an extensive terrestrial island fiber build-out, (commissioned in 2015) – and the world’s first-ever Polar 1,896 km repeatered submarine fiber optic network, called Quintillion Subsea, connecting the Alaskan Arctic of Prudhoe Bay and Nome through an express system, and Barrow, Kotzebue, Wainwright and Point Hope (Ready For Service in 2016).

“I am extremely proud of our talented team who has successfully supported over the years 9 transoceanic, 15 regional and 32 inter-platform projects for some 60 clients,” said WFN Strategies Managing Director, Wayne Nielsen.  “As a result, we enjoy today a special relationship with not only the industry’s many commercial clients, but governmental and Oil & Gas clients as well.”
