the challenge
Woodside engaged WFN Strategies to perform a feasibility and cable location study for a submarine cable crossing linked to a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) pipeline in offshore Senegal. The primary goal was to ensure seamless integration between the cable and FPSO infrastructure without disrupting ongoing oil and gas operations. With pipeline crossings presenting structural risks and requiring careful routing, the project demanded a careful balance of technical engineering and operational safeguards.
Environmental dynamics and seabed conditions unique to the Senegalese offshore added further complexity. WFN was tasked with evaluating seafloor morphology, mitigating risks to subsea assets, and embedding best-practice recommendations for cable crossing design. This required precise engineering judgment, regulatory awareness, and close coordination with pipeline and offshore operations teams to preserve system reliability and environmental compliance.
project goals
the result
WFN Strategies delivered a detailed feasibility study with optimized cable route recommendations, structural integration methods, and risk assessments tailored to FPSO pipeline crossing scenarios. Our recommendations supported Woodside’s decision-making and enhanced the safety and efficiency of planned offshore operations. The study reaffirmed WFN’s expertise in engineering complex subsea infrastructure in support of FPSO-linked energy systems.
