the challenge
Chile’s MTT, in partnership with Telecommunications Management Group (TMG), commissioned WFN Strategies to evaluate the feasibility of establishing the first direct digital gateway connecting South America and Asia via submarine cable. This landmark initiative required a thorough assessment of economic viability, technical specifications, legal frameworks, and cross‑continental collaboration—setting a new precedent in global data connectivity.
WFN was responsible for conducting detailed technical evaluations of route options, system infrastructure, and risk mitigation strategies—while ensuring adherence to international submarine cable standards. The study also examined the project’s capacity to support emerging technologies like IoT, 5G, cloud computing, and AI. In a highly competitive field, our proposal met four out of six evaluation criteria, ultimately being named the most complete by CAF (Development Bank of Latin America)
project goals
the result
The TMG–WFN consortium delivered an award‑winning feasibility study funded by the Development Bank of Latin America. The report laid the groundwork for cable implementation by mid‑2026 and was recognized as superior among eight proposals, meeting key evaluation criteria and reinforcing Chile’s role in global digital infrastructure
This landmark feasibility project demonstrated WFN Strategies’ capability in delivering high-impact, cross‑continental submarine cable planning, firmly establishing us as leaders in enabling next-generation data connectivity between continents.
