Cabinda Interconnect Cable I

category
client

Transnational Infrastructure Company

start date

November 2022

end date

December 2022

location

Cabinda to Soyo, Angola

the challenge

The client required a comprehensive feasibility and route assessment for a submarine power cable system linking Cabinda and Soyo—two strategically important regions in Angola—across complex coastal and marine environments. The project demanded a technical solution capable of reliably transmitting high-voltage electricity under challenging seabed conditions, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, local ecosystems, and regional integration.

WFN Strategies conducted detailed seabed analyses, environmental impact evaluations, and route optimization studies to identify the most viable submarine corridor. We collaborated with local regulators and engineering teams to ensure alignment with Angola’s energy infrastructure goals while mitigating risks related to marine topography and ecological sensitivity. All recommendations were designed to support robust energy distribution and fulfill essential power needs throughout the region.

project goals

  • Conduct technical and environmental feasibility for the Cabinda–Soyo power link

  • Optimize cable routing to navigate complex seabed and reduce ecological risk

  • Provide sustainable and scalable design guidance for long-term energy delivery

  • Support stakeholder engagement with regulators and regional planners

  • Deliver implementation-ready documentation for procurement and construction

the result

WFN Strategies produced a full feasibility report that guided project planning and risk reduction efforts, including optimized route maps, environmental assessment summaries, and engineering design recommendations. The study established the technical groundwork for a reliable offshore power interconnect and supported procurement decision-making aligned with Angola’s sustainable energy vision.

This work reinforced WFN’s capability in delivering power cable solutions in emerging markets and complex marine settings, contributing to national energy security and regional development goals in Angola.
