WFN Strategies Marks Earth Day with Continued Commitment to Sustainable Subsea Network Development
WFN Strategies Press Release
April 22, 2026
Sterling, Virginia – WFN Strategies today reaffirmed its commitment to advancing environmentally responsible practices across the global subsea cable industry in recognition of Earth Day 2026. As a long-standing advisor in submarine cable development, the company continues to prioritize sustainability, environmental stewardship, and responsible infrastructure deployment at every stage of project execution.
Subsea cable systems are essential to global connectivity, but their deployment requires careful interaction with complex marine ecosystems. WFN Strategies works to ensure these interactions are managed responsibly through improved planning, reduced-impact technologies, and proactive environmental assessments.
“In our line of work, impacting the environment is inevitable,” said Kristian Nielsen, Chief Revenue Officer at WFN Strategies. “What distinguishes our community is a nearly 170-year history of partnership with the seabed—a history of learning and adapting through less intrusive technologies and the application of sustainable practices that support the regrowth of coral beds and minimize impacts on marine life. Ours is a legacy of stewardship and a sense of oneness with our marine workspace. Happy Earth Day!”
WFN Strategies has supported the SubOptic Association’s Sustainable Subsea Networks working group for several years. The group brings together industry, academic, and environmental stakeholders to advance sustainable subsea development through collaboration, shared best practices, and ongoing dialogue across the global cable community.
Most recently, WFN Strategies joined the Preliminary Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (PESIA) effort for the SubConnex SCNX-3 cable system, led by APTelecom. This multi-jurisdictional project spans Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and India, presenting a complex mix of regulatory, environmental, and social considerations.
As part of this initiative, WFN is conducting site-specific environmental and social assessments to identify permitting requirements, evaluate stakeholder expectations, and highlight risks that could impact project timelines and feasibility. Early identification of sensitive areas enables more sustainable routing decisions, reduces permitting uncertainty, and minimizes the need for redesign during later project phases.
Through these efforts, WFN Strategies continues to demonstrate that global connectivity and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive, but interconnected priorities that must be addressed together.
