WFN Strategies: Celebrating 25 Years of Leadership in Submarine Cable Systems

Since 2001, WFN Strategies has provided independent consulting and implementation support for submarine cable systems worldwide. Over the past 25 years, WFN has supported more than 180 projects across every phase of the project lifecycle, including feasibility, system design, route engineering, permitting, procurement, implementation, owner’s representation, and maintenance.

Our experience includes numerous industry firsts, such as the first Caspian Sea inter-platform fiber optic network for BP, the first Gulf of Mexico inter-platform submarine cable system for BP, and the first submarine cable system serving a Floating LNG facility offshore Australia for Shell.

In 2026, WFN celebrated 25 years of supporting the global submarine cable industry through planning, design, implementation, client representation, and operational support. Maintaining ISO 9001, 14001, 27001, and 45001 certifications, WFN continued to deliver projects worldwide while expanding its Client Representative program and advancing critical communications infrastructure. As it enters its next quarter century, WFN remains focused on innovation, quality, sustainability, and helping clients connect the world.

24 Years of Global Reach

WFN celebrated 24 years with continued industry leadership, global project delivery, and ISO re-certifications (9001, 14001, 27001, 45001). Key efforts included providing due diligence on a Pacific power cable, and supporting multiple international submarine telecoms projects with design, engineering, MMO and client rep services. The team earned new certifications and contributed to global forums, while also supporting community programs from Rwanda to Virginia. WFN enters 2025 focused on innovation, sustainability, and strategic growth in the subsea cables sector.

We joined The Climate Pledge alongside Amazon, Verizon and over 100 other companies from across dozens of industries, proposing to not only reach carbon neutral operations by 2040 but also become the industry champions for powering submarine cable systems with renewable sources. We also accomplished ISO 14001:2015 Environmental management system certification, becoming the first consultancy in the industry to do so.

We implemented the first-ever repeatered submarine fiber optic network connecting the Alaskan Arctic for Quintillion.

We became an ISO 9001:2015 certified designer and implementer of submarine cable systems, becoming the first consultancy in the industry to do so.

We accomplished our first transoceanic system, that being the system engineering of route and permitting feasibility for AAG, and also that year, we accomplished our first Arctic project, a Prudhoe Bay, Alaska broadband, terrestrial fibre and trunked radio system for BP.
