Project Description

Overview – Nzadi Cable System

WFN Strategies partnered with the Nzadi Consortium to deliver critical planning, engineering, and implementation services for the Nzadi Cable System. Designed to connect offshore energy assets and coastal communities in Angola, this project represents a transformative step in the region’s telecommunications infrastructure.

Project Highlights

  • High-Capacity Design: The system includes a main trunk cable from Luanda to Cabinda with up to 14 fiber pairs and a branching unit for future connectivity to Soyo and potential northward expansions.
  • Offshore Connectivity: The cable will serve 15–30 offshore energy assets, enhancing operational efficiency in Angola’s energy sector.
  • Future Expansion Potential: The system could extend to the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo, fostering regional connectivity.

Challenges Addressed

  1. Local Engagement: Ensured the project utilized local content for civil works, dry plant maintenance, and employment opportunities for young professionals.
  2. Cost and Risk Sharing: Designed a collaborative funding model inviting Angolan telecom operators and ISPs to co-build the system, reducing operational risks and costs.
  3. Regional Development: Aligned the project with Angola’s goals to improve underserved regions and stimulate economic growth.
