Project Description
Overview – BLAST Submarine Cable
WFN Strategies partnered with Mid-State Consultants to provide critical permitting, environmental monitoring, and implementation support for the Broadband Linking American Samoa Territory (BLAST) submarine cable system. Designed to enhance inter-island connectivity in American Samoa, BLAST serves as a vital link supporting regional communications and infrastructure.
Project Highlights
- Unrepeatered System Design: A 250–350 km cable connecting multiple landing points across American Samoa, including Fogagogo, Ofu, Luma, and Aunu’u Wharf.
- Key Objectives: Enhanced broadband connectivity for underserved regions and improved telecommunications infrastructure across the territory.
- Environmental Oversight: Ensured compliance with permitting requirements and minimized environmental impact during shore-end installations.
Challenges Addressed
- Permitting and Compliance: Secured necessary permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, adhering to stringent environmental and regulatory standards.
- Environmental Mitigation: Conducted independent environmental monitoring to oversee shore-end installations and meet mitigation requirements.
- Specialized Implementation: Provided telecom implementation expertise to guide the system’s development, including route surveys and construction oversight.
WFN Strategies’ Role
WFN Strategies delivered:
