History of WFN Strategies

Since 2001, we have accomplished on all seven continents more than 125 submarine cable system projects for 70+ International Clients, including 25+ Regional Systems, 15+ Inter-Platform Systems and 15+ Transoceanic Systems. In 2018 alone, we accomplished nine projects for seven clients in four global regions, and we are the world’s leading expert on the design, engineering and implementation of submarine cable systems in Polar environments.

2001

In March 2001, just before 9/11 and the start of our largest industry downturn, we created WFN Strategies with a mission to exceed customer expectations by solving complex telecom network design and implementation problems for commercial, governmental and oil & gas clients while maintaining a positive commitment to social impact and environment.

2004

In 2004, we accomplished our first oil & gas project, a first-ever Caspian Sea-based inter-platform system for BP.

2006

In 2006, we accomplished our first transoceanic system, that being the system engineering of route and permitting feasibility for AAG, and also that year, we accomplished our first Arctic project, a Prudhoe Bay, Alaska broadband, terrestrial fibre and trunked radio system for BP.

2007

In 2007, we accomplished our first scientific cable project, a submarine fibre-optic network capable of serving both underwater science nodes and offshore platforms in Arabian Gulf for Lighthouse R&D.

2008

In 2008, we implemented the first-ever US Gulf of Mexico inter-platform cable system for BP.

2009

In 2009, Forbes Magazine ranked us as a semi-finalist for its “America’s Most Promising Companies” list, and since that year, US Commerce Association and Small Business Community Association selected us for the “Best of Washington, DC for Telecommunications Consultant.”

2010

2011

In 2011, we implemented the first of several subsequent cables for an OTT, as well as the first-ever inter-platform submarine fiber optic cable system in Australia for Inpex.

2015

In 2015, we implemented the first-ever submarine fiber optic cable system linking the islands of American Samoa for ASTCA.

2016

In 2016, we implemented the first-ever submarine cable system to a FLNG facility offshore North West coast of Australia for Shell.

2017

In 2017, we became an ISO 9001:2015 certified designer and implementer of submarine cable systems, as well as implemented the first-ever submarine fiber optic network connecting the Alaskan Arctic of Prudhoe Bay and Nome for Quintillion.

2019

In 2019, US Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, presented WFNS with the President’s “E” Award for Exports at a ceremony in Washington, DC, one of only 25 companies nationwide to have been selected.
