Project Description


South Pole Broadband Study is a research and engineering analyses of fiber optic cable, microwave radio and tropospheric scatter radio for a telecoms link between McMurdo Station and Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in consideration of ice movement, autonomous power solutions, numerical modeling of cable movement in firn, analysis of available digital elevation models, refinement of microwave path loss software and associated path design climate parameters and available antennas and mounts for the microwave system, and including a submarine fiber connection between Antarctica and New Zealand.
