Telecoms consulting of submarine/terrestrial cable and wireless systems for remote sites
WFN Strategies provides telecoms engineering for a number of domestic and international governmental customers. Our governmental clients and other public service organizations worldwide achieve high performance communications in the face of complex challenges, providing a broad range of telecom consulting, technology, system integration, and business services. Our work has significant reach, enhancing the national security, economic well being, and health and safety of citizens around the world. We have provided telecoms support worldwide for government and NGO projects in Antarctica, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and the USA.
Submarine Cable
WFN Strategies designs, engineers and implements submarine optical cable systems for governmental clients, which have utilized repeatered and unrepeatered technologies, and have been transoceanic, regional, or festoon in scope. We have been involved with all aspects of implementing telecommunications systems and ICT (information and communications technologies) – from feasibility studies through capital budgeting to engineering, purchasing, and installation to commissioning & testing. Our staff has decades of experience in all aspects of worldwide telecoms projects, including the first trans-oceanic fiber systems in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans, as well as the projects for US Department of Defense and Homeland Security, and NATO.
Terrestrial Cable
WFN Strategies designs, engineers and implements terrestrial optical cable systems for governmental clients. These cable systems link critical infrastructure for remote application. Our staff designed and implemented some of the first long-haul terrestrial fiber systems in the 1980s, as well as was critical in support to recent governmental systems in Antarctica, including a proposed terrestrial cable link from McMurdo Station to South Pole Station.
Wireless
WFN Strategies designs, engineers and implements microwave, broadband wireless, land mobile, trunked radio and WiMAX systems for governmental clients. These systems include point-to-point links for remote terrestrial facilities. Our staff designed and implemented long-haul analog microwave radio systems in the 1980s with projects in the Middle East, and worked on the first digital microwave systems for the Bell Operating Companies in North America. Our experience also encompasses planning and implementation of land mobile and trunked radio. Since 2008 we supported and managed the engineering of broadband wireless systems in Antarctica, including a proposed microwave link from McMurdo Station to South Pole Station.
WFN Strategies accomplishes for governmental clients project initiation and planning, which reduces risk, ensures alignment of objectives, capitalizes on efficiencies, and leads ultimately to project success. We create feasibility and desktop studies from which system architectures are developed. We develop system strategy, plan and manage the acquisition process, and then oversee the implementation phase of telecoms supply contracts, including the vital area of developing standards and specifications for system design, construction, and maintenance.
WFN Strategies’ performs for governmental clients design and engineering of fiber cable routes and microwave communication paths. Decades of experience in telecommunications, hydrographic survey, mapping, and software development are combined to automate the engineering and budgetary analysis process. A unique feature of the microwave path analysis software is its ability to work worldwide, including the North and South poles, a feature not found in any other commercially-available software. Cable analysis can be performed worldwide, generating 3-D cable lengths and profiles using high-resolution bathymetry/topography.
We possess the capability to deliver any type of GIS product worldwide. Detailed spatial datasets and associated metadata are gathered, quality controlled, and merged in to spatially-enabled SQL databases that can be used as-is or exported to industry standard formats. Satellite and seabed imagery, along with other specialized raster datasets can be analyzed to include vector feature extraction, raster object detection and thematic texture analysis. We utilize in-house spatial databases and automated mapping software to produce specialized GIS products like alignment charts, 3-D animations/fly-through, and interactive web maps.
WFN Strategies engineers for governmental clients an integrated system solution for projects of local, regional, and international scope. We prepare detailed engineering designs to transform theoretical telecom system architectures and concepts into real-world solutions.
Our engineers review the technology options for a planned infrastructure, identify key factors driving the selection of the technology and recommend the technology to be used. Other technology related decisions are then made, including the fiber count to be included in a prospective cable, the initial and ultimate bandwidth requirements, potential expansion to other assets over the life of the system, and the location and function of network managers.
WFN Strategies provides governmental clients with timely information and feedback fused with decades of combined real-world experience, ultimately resulting in successfully-completed, on-budget and on-time projects. We have a proven track record of supplying program management support for large, complex telecommunications projects world-wide, and our use of matrix management and cross-functional job roles allow us the flexibility to adapt to dynamic project conditions while maintaining project management rigor.
A key step in our project management approach is monitoring and control, which is an iterative process; only after successful acceptance testing can a project be considered closed out. Throughout our project’s lifecycle, there is extensive communication among the project team and with our client. By communicating regularly, all stakeholders are kept informed, promoting collaboration and reducing re-work.
All project managers, and many of our engineers have participated in project management training, and several are PMP™ certified. We have assembled a specialist team of experienced program management professionals, familiar and comfortable with the level of detail required to support a program of the magnitude of projects in the environment of large joint-owner projects.
WFN Strategies implements and supervises for governmental clients diverse projects worldwide, on time and within budget. We develop testing, commissioning and acceptance plans and procedures, and provide QA/QC and customer representation and schedule coordination of vendor activities.
We review all aspects of a project and determine whether adequate measures are in place to ensure that the overall project objectives can be met. Such activities involve either the performance of source inspection or source surveillance, or the performance of quality duties with a certain standard of care. We also supervise marine and terrestrial surveys, civil works, wet and dry plant manufacturing, marine and terrestrial installation, and testing and commissioning for system acceptance.
